The Business Challenge

Following a strategic merger, the client required a unified, accurate, and accessible reporting solution to track and analyse global sales data. This was critical to enabling data-driven decisions, aligning operations across the newly consolidated organisation, and supporting the company’s growth trajectory. The merger brought immense opportunities for synergies but also presented complex challenges related to data integration and governance:

  • Disparate Systems: Historical silos across the entities meant sales and delivery data were stored in separate systems with inconsistent structures, creating barriers to consolidation.

    The organisation needed a scalable, governed solution to harmonise its data, improve reporting accuracy, and provide insights across all business units.

    The Solution

    Decision Inc. collaborated closely with the client to design and implement a robust Data Lake solution within Microsoft Azure. The solution was tailored to the client’s specific needs and future-proofed for scalability and performance. Key components included:

    • Medallion Architecture: The Data Lake followed a structured bronze, silver, and gold layer design. This approach ensured data governance, allowing raw data ingestion, intermediate cleansing, and transformation into optimised, analytics-ready datasets.
    • Master Data Management Integration: Reference data and master records were harmonised, enabling seamless and accurate reporting despite inconsistencies in upstream systems.
    • Microsoft Azure Technology Stack: Utilised Azure Data Factory pipelines for automated, low-code data ingestion processes. The solution was designed for visibility and compliance using Microsoft Purview.
    • Target Data Model: A simplified star schema was developed to optimise reporting performance and provide consistent metrics for business users.
    • Future-Ready Design: Built with Microsoft Fabric compatibility in mind, ensuring adaptability for future technology advancements.

    The implementation was a phased, collaborative effort involving Decision Inc.’s data experts and the client’s business intelligence and leadership teams. Decision Inc. led an initial in-depth analysis and design phase, followed by milestone-based development and iterative refinements during testing to deliver a solution that met the client’s high standards.
